Corky’s may be the only place in the world where a customer can drink a glass of wine while catching a comedy show, then buy a new e-bike or scooter before heading home.
Temple Scooter Company, located inside Corky’s, is an authorized dealer for Hi-Boy electric bikes, scooters and electric skateboards. The new business keeps several models of scooters and at least one e-bike on the showroom floor. Skateboards are ordered and delivered in about a week.
“We sell and service Hi-Boy products,” said John Davis, sales manager of Temple Scooters Co. “I’ve been a scooter tech here for going on two years. We don’t rent scooters any more, we sell new scooters and e-bikes. But for a while, we had 60 scooters all over the Downtown area, and I kept them running.”
Several of the e-bikes, including the flashy EX6 Hi-Boy, can operate in several driving modes.
“You can set it to throttle only, and it operates much like a motorcycle,” Davis said. “You can pedal it, and you can pedal and use the motor to assist climbing hills.”
During a visit this past week, the shop had four scooter models and the EX6 in stock. But, Davis said, customers aren’t limited to what’s on the floor.
“We have the entire Hi-Boy lineup online at templescootercompany.com,” he said. “We can order the unit you want and have it shipped here in about seven days. I can assemble it, or we can have it shipped directly to the customer.”
“We don’t want to have a huge inventory here at Corky’s,” he said. “But we can get what you want and need. And, we can dress it up with all the bells and whistles,” he said. “We also carry helmets and other accessories, and we can get any part you might need.”
“We keep our floor models at the front of the store during the day time, and I try to keep one up front but out of the way so Corky’s customers can see them at night,” he said. “On a beautiful day, I park the bikes and scooters out front so people passing by can check them out.”
E-bikes at Temple Scooter start at about $1,000. Scooters start at $350 and electric skateboards are $200 and up.
Sanda Escalante, a spokesperson for Corky’s, Tour Temple and Temple Scooter, said the company hosts pop-up sales at Downtown events and activities.
“We’ve done pop-ups during First Friday, and we will have a big display during the April 15 Car Show on 2nd Street. The show will run 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and registration for cars, trucks and motorcycles is $25. The Car Show will be free for patrons.
