THS to host showcase for incoming students

Temple High School’s program showcase is an annual event that allows students who will be a part of next year’s freshman class to visit the high school with their families to learn about the programming available at THS. This Wednesday, January 25th, students will get the opportunity to explore their options and begin to plan for their futures during that event.
Apart from core curriculum — classes such as math, science, English, language arts and social studies — Temple High School also offers various advanced academic, fine arts, athletics and career and technical education (CTE) courses that students can choose from to complete their schedules. The program showcase gives each of those programs an opportunity to present information to incoming students and their families.
The timing of the showcase, early in the spring semester, is intentional. Administrators want to give eighth-graders ample time to weigh their options and have a roadmap of what their time at Temple High School may look like, since some programs like the International Baccalaureate and select CTE career paths need to be started by a certain grade level in order to earn credit and/or certifications. Later in the spring, counselors at the middle school level will work with students to begin working on their plans and course selections for high school.
“We are excited to host incoming Freshmen families this Wednesday. High School registration can be intimidating for parents and student, but this presentation is designed to be informative to help ease any anxiety,” said Dr. Jason Mayo, principal of Temple High School.
“THS has over 1000 active courses, five different endorsement pathways, and three degree plans,” Mayo said. “We offer a lot to our families because we want to ensure we help them accomplish their academic and career goals. Our Program Showcase will give parents and students an opportunity to learn more about our first-class programs so they can make informed decisions about registration and charting the next four years. We will have counselors and administrators on hand to answer any questions parents or students may have.”
The program showcase will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25th, in the student center at Temple High School. Teachers, staff and administrators will also be present to guide parents and students and answer any questions during the event
