Black History Month celebrations continue in Bell County with Mama’s Daughters, a gospel stage production coming this weekend to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The play, presented by faith-based production company KZamore Enterprises, will be on stage Friday and Saturday at Baugh Performance Hall, located inside the Mayborn Performing Arts Center on the UMHB campus.
The curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
The play is the creation of Dr. Kerry Ann Zamore-Byrd, a social work professor at the Belton university.
“Mama’s Daughters is an original piece that explains the complexity of family relationships,” Zamore-Byrd said. “It stars many special guests the audience is sure to love.”
Zamore-Byrd said the story examines the relationship between a mother and her daughters as she copes with her failing health.
“Her daughters discover hidden family secrets that give them a deeper understanding and love for family,” she said.
The show features gospel recording artist Tasha Page-Lockhart of Tyler Perry’s Madea on the Run as Sophie, one of the daughters. The show also features gospel queen Lisa Page Brooks and local radio personalities Stewy Hype, Monique Barsh and Lady T.
According to UMHB spokesperson Ashely Smith, tickets for the show are $30, $20 for UMHB students. Partial proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Association of Black Students and the Social Work Club. Tickets are available at UMHB’s Performing Arts Center box office and online at Mama's Daughters Tickets (ticketreturn.com).
