A Downtown car show that raises money for a local veterans group will be held April 15 along a two-block section of 2nd Street.
The 2nd Street Car Show, hosted by Tour Temple, is free to the public and will begin at 9 a.m., according to Dani Patterson, one of the event organizers.
“Proceeds from this event are donated to Rucks on Main,” Patterson said. “Twice a year — on Memorial Day and Veterans Day weekends — Rucks on Main hosts a military-themed ruck march through Downtown and the Historic District to honor our veterans, first responders and the fallen. They also donate food for the homeless community.”
“Last year, we were able to donate $1,850 to Rucks on Main, and this year we hope to increase that donation,” she said.
Patterson said several awards will be presented at this year’s 2nd Street Car Show.
“We will have Best in Show, the Mayor’s Choice, and the People’s Choice awards,” she said. “We’ll also have first-place automobile trophies for antiques, classics and contemporary cars.”
The antiques class is for cars built from 1900 to 1959 and the classics is for cars made in 1960 to 1999. There will be an “Others” class for trucks, motorcycles, electric vehicles and hybrids.
“We will also award second- and third-place trophies, as well as a basket case award,” Patterson said. “That’s 10 trophies up for grabs.”
“We will be shutting down two city blocks and 45 of the coolest rides ever will be on display,” she said. “The judging starts at 2 p.m. Rosita’s Food Truck will be available if you want to munch a breakfast taco while taking in the sights.”
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the non profit veterans group Rucks on Main, which raises money twice a year for local food pantries.
Patterson said sponsorships for this year’s event are available by emailing dani.patterson@tourtemple.com.
